Lucky Surf & Supply, Long Jetty

It isn’t immediately obvious from the outside that Lucky Surf & Supply in Long Jetty serves coffee. If it wasn’t for the sandwich board on the footpath, you would not have noticed that inside the glass doors, lies a coffee shop. One side is a minimally designed surf supply store and on the other, is the brick bar. Behind it is a shelf holding bags of coffee and a surfboard (as you’d expect). A small menu is written neatly on blackboards that hang above a blondewood counter. I’ve seen cyclists enjoy their morning brew there before hopping back on their bikes.

Lucky uses a dark chocolatey roast which is great for a milk coffee. Do the right thing and grab a large flat white ($4.50) so you can appreciate it. For the hotter days, just get a half litre of cold drip soda ($15) – it’s the much-needed caffeine and cools you down. You may even take home a 700mL bottle of ONYX pure cold drip ($30) to savor at home. If you really like the blend that Lucky uses, you can grab a 250g bag of coffee beans ($15) or even a 1kg bag if you’re an avid consumer. They also offer to grind it for you if you don’t have a grinder at home which is great if you’re on holiday and have somehow forgotten your hand grinder.

Assorted pastries are available like raw brownies ($4) and muffins ($4). The squares of raw cacao are sweet and sticky. For something more filling, there’s also an avocado and feta smash ($8) on offer. Oh how I’ve missed an avo smash with coffee.

Most people simply pass through the Jetty on their way up the coast but you should really stop by for a few hours. Visit Lucky for a take-out coffee and if you’re a surfer, you may even be able to pick up supplies. Kill two birds with one stone!
