Communion Coffee, Redfern

There are more coffee shops in Redfern than I have fingers and one of them is brought to you by Sutherland legends, White Horse. They’ve set up shop at Communion Coffee and are bringing their amazing brews to one of my most favorite suburbs in Sydney. It seemed like they popped up overnight (like daisies!) without any fanfare at all.


The baristas here are great; I’ve been in at all different times and days and they’ll always be super nice. If any of you are reading this, you’re all rad as heck. I clear out my schedule at least once a week (which is a great deal for me) to come to Communion and get my caffeine and yes, sometimes I go out of my way to get coffee here. Whether you’re a fan of espresso or filter coffee, they’ve got you covered.

Brisket roll ($10)

On the weekends, Communion fires up the smoker and does a mean brisket roll. If brisket isn’t your thing, there’s Portobello rolls and brekkie rolls as well. Unable to make it out to Redfern on the weekend? If you get there early enough on Monday, there might still be some left for you. Don’t worry, they’ll toast it up for you. Coleslaw, tender brisket, and thinly sliced pickles are sandwiched together and make for a good breakfast.

Can’t stay long? Get your drink to-go and one of the pastries in the display case. It’s hard to concentrate when there’s a delicious brewnut and a cup of White Horse on your desk. Communion also sells bags of their grind for you to use at home. Short of kidnapping one of their baristas and stealing a pallet of beans, this is the closest you’ll get to their coffee. Redfern, your coffee game is about to get stronger.
