More about me

Back in mid 2010, I started my first food blog and to be frank, I had no idea what I was doing. I had eaten at all sorts of different places, from hawker markets to fine dining but I was bad at wording my experiences and probably worse at photographing food. Sometime in 2012, I moved my blog in an attempt to get inspired again but it didn't work; so by early 2013, I decided to take a break and focus on my studies instead.

Over time, I started to figure out what my writing style was and I'm still slowly learning how to take good photos. Although when I go out, it'll most likely be good ol' iPhotography. In retrospect, every time I was stressed out during my break, I turned to food (and crime shows, but let's not talk about that now). After mulling it over, I decided to start afresh with spooncubed.

My mom taught me the basics of cooking when I was young. The first thing I remember learning from her was how to evenly chop a cucumber with my eyes closed; it's a pretty cool party trick. This eventually turned into my first solo cook: mushroom and potato soup with fish fillets fried in bread. Ever since then, I've been interested in food and cooking (I actually use recipes now). My interest is fueled by watching cooking shows, trawling chef's instagrams, and reading cookbooks and food science books.

So why call it spooncubed? A basic dinner will have three dishes, so you can feasibly use three spoons throughout the meal! I'm a bit of a geek which is why I chose spooncubed and not threespoons. I sketched a few different ideas for a logo and settled on the current one. After a few hours of squinting at photoshop, the beginnings of this blog took shape.

I hope I can convince you to continue reading this blog and join this food journey of mine. Come back every Sunday for a new post!
